Blue Pine is a result of blue stain fungus that spreads to specific pine trees from the body of the Mountain Pine Beetles. The blue stain fungi are prone to cause a bluish / grayish discoloration of the wood, but it does not affect the integrity or strength of the wood, nor does it cause the wood to decay.
Our wood comes from pine trees that were killed by the ongoing mountain pine beetle epidemic throughout the American West. The beetles have killed some 150 million acres of pine, leaving dead trees standing from Mexico through Canada.
