Our Shutter Manufacturing Process

At Wholesale Shutter Company, we offer custom-built discount shutters that will fit any style and design. Whether you prefer natural wood or poly (PVC), we hold our processes to the highest industry standards.

But how do we build our shutters? Here’s a quick tour of our manufacturing processes:

Wood Shutters

To ensure the quality of our wood shutters, we decided not to use MDF or glued together wood parts. We use single-piece, solid basswood, even on the tilt rods and louvers. Basswood is the industry’s top choice for high-quality shutters because it’s easy to sand and finish and resists the effects of moisture and temperature.

After we receive the specifications for the custom shutters, the manufacturing process begins with sanding the basswood pieces. These are then primed and cut to size then sent off to be painted with multiple coats of low-VOC lacquer-based paint; lacquer creates a smooth and rich finish that lasts longer that doesn’t turn yellow or fade.

For clients who prefer stained wood finishes, the parts are dipped in a stain tank for even coverage, then hand-wiped with a cloth. This later step pushes the stain into the wood grain, ensuring a consistent and beautiful look. All parts are dried and assembled using precision tools and equipment.

Poly Shutters

Poly, also known as PVC or vinyl, is a thermoplastic material popular with homeowners for its low-maintenance properties and used for manufacturing siding, water pipes, and window frames. We use special, first-generation PVC that resists fire and water on top of being energy-efficient.

The poly shutter parts are extruded from molds and cut to size. Unlike typical poly shutters, we don’t make hollow vinyl or wood fibers wrapped in poly. Instead, we use aluminum tubing to reinforce the solid poly shutters. After the parts are cut to size, they’re assembled using the same process we use on our wood shutters, but instead of stain or acrylic, we use a special polyurethane coating. The shutter assemblies are then delivered to our clients’ premises and assembled by our installation team.
